Then Airman Basic Melena Quetel, who’s currently the 46th Aerial Port Squadron education and training manager, stands in front of a static aircraft on Chanute Air Force Base, Ill., where she attended technical training as a parachute and fabrication specialist. Known as Airman Linz at the time, she wore a yellow rope on her uniform, signifying greater responsibility and supervision authority of a flight. On Dec. 6, 2014, Quetel became the first of 11 children in her family to earn a college degree, a feat made possible through the Community College of the Air Force. (Courtesy photo)
