POPE FIELD, N.C. - Retired Chief Warrant Officer 5 Ken Breeden, US Army Parachute Team here, demonstrates the safety feature of the Traffic Collision Avoidance System on board a UV-18C Twin Otter 400, as part of a comprehensive Mid-Air Collision Avoidance program. Breeden said the TCAS displayed a target, or aircraft, more than 11 miles away and 7800 feet above his current location. Collision avoidance systems such as TCAS, Terrain Warning Systems, weather warning systems, transponders and communication between flight crews, Air Traffic Control and Ground Control all contribute to the safe operation of aircraft, said Breeden.
