The active duty 388th Fighter Wing and Air Force Reserve 419th Fighter Wing formally welcomed the arrival of the F-35 Lightning II during a ceremony hosted by Lockheed Martin at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, Oct. 14. Reserve Airmen from the 419th Fighter Wing, Hill Air Force Base, give Maj. Gen. Derek Rydholm an overview of their F-35 operations. This included training for pilots and maintainers, construction projects for the new aircraft, and the Total Force partnership between the Reserve 419th FW and active-duty 388th FW.
The PJs were hoisted down, attached the pilot and were lifted up while the HH-60 Pave Hawk hovered over head during water survival training at Naval Air Station Key West, Florida on September 14 - 18, 2015. The joint exercise consisted of the 301st Fighter Wing, the 457th Fighter Squadron, both from Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base, Texas, the 44th Fighter Group, Tyndall AFB, Fl., the 920th Rescue Wing, 308th Rescue Squadron, Patrick AFB, Fl., and Naval Air Station Key West Base Operations, Key West, Fl. The first two operational F-35A Lightning II aircraft arrive at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, Sept. 2, 2015. The jets were piloted by Col. David Lyons, 388th Fighter Wing commander, and Lt. Col. Yosef Morris, 34th Fighter squadron director of operations. Hill will receive up to 70 additional combat-coded F-35s on a staggered basis through 2019. Senior Airman Samantha Callaway, an Air Force reservist in the 419th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, performs a routine inspection on an F-35A’s internal weapons bay at Hill Air Force Base Sept. 3. Hill received the Air Force’s first operational F-35s Sept. 2, and maintenance personnel in the 419th Fighter Wing are already hard at work, getting hands-on training to become experts in fifth-generation technology.
