Air Force Reserve C-130s spray southern Louisiana
BATON ROUGE, La - A C-130 assigned to Air Force Reserve Command's 910th Airlift Wing sprays LaFourche Parish in southern Louisiana Sept. 21 as part of disaster relief efforts to help parish residents after Hurricane Ike struck the region. Fifty unit reservists and four of their specially equipped C-130s from Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, are staging out of Barksdale Air Force Base, La. The aircrews must fly at only 150 feet above the ground to effectively kill mosquito infestations, eliminating the potential spread of West Nile Virus and Encephalitis. The Airmen are working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Centers for Disease Control and state public health officials to determine locations to spray. (FEMA photo/Calvin Telleson)
