Air Force reservists volunteer for ship duty
Air Force reservists volunteer for ship duty 050813-F-6504N-001 Staff Sgt. Robert Brown, an Air Force reservist with the 624th Civil Engineer Squadron, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, prepares to drill out a deck plug on the teakwood deck of the USS Missouri. More than 100,000 deck plugs have been replaced since restoration of the Iowa-class battleship began in 1998. Sergeant Brown is one of many members of Air Force Reserve Commands 624th Regional Support Group, who have volunteered their time this summer to help restore the historic battleship docked at Ford Island, Oahu. Restoration efforts on the ship, popularly known as the "Mighty Mo," stepped up recently in anticipation of celebrations scheduled for Sept. 2, commemorating the 60th anniversary of its role as the site of Japan's unconditional surrender to Allied Forces, which ended World War II. Volunteer work on the USS Missouri is part of the 624th RSGs ongoing community outreach program. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Daniel Nathaniel)
