Shrink-wrapping legacy MAFFS unit
PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. A boat storage technician contracted by the U.S. Forest Service shrink wraps a U.S. Forest Service-owned Legacy Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System Mar. 26 to prepare it for transport from storage at the 302nd Airlift Wing here. The Legacy System was first used by the 302nd Airlift Wing when the Colorado Reserve wing took on the MAFFS mission in 1993. In 2009 the 302nd AW received two U.S. Forest Service MAFFS II Systems, replacing the Legacy System. The MAFFS Legacy Systems were the first of their kind, built in the 1970s and were the first modular airborne fire fighting equipment used by the DOD. The MAFFS Legacy System will be returned to the U.S. Forest Service for its final disposition. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Daniel Butterfield)
