Memorial run honors fallen APS Airmen Published May 18, 2016 By Senior Airman Aja Heiden 482nd Public Affairs Office HOMESTEAD AIR RESERVE BASE -- The 70th Aerial Port Squadron participated in the 3rd annual Port Dawg Memorial 5K at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida May 14. Each year members of the Aerial Port community meet on bases and other locations around the world to honor fallen Aerial Porters in a 3.1069-mile run. “Port Dawg is a nickname for Aerial Port members,” said Chief Master Sgt. Tony Rodriguez, the 70th APS Air Transportation Superintendent. The name for the memorial run comes from this nickname. Service members from other units were invited to participate in the run as honorary APS members. More than 100 Airmen from Homestead participated in the run to show their support. "This run is something Aerial Porters do around the world,” said Rodriguez. “Right now, some of our team members are on temporary duty assignments and they are doing the run in Alaska and South Carolina.” This year the run honors 5 Aerial Porters who lost their lives.
