AFRC announces 2015 Outstanding Enlisted Aircrew Members

Air Force Reserve Command has announced the 2015 Outstanding Enlisted Aircrew Members of the Year.

Winners of the Senior NCO, NCO and Airman categories are:

Senior Master Sergeant James J. Guldjord, 18th Air Refueling Squadron, McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas; Tech Sgt. James C. Grove, 433rd Operations Group, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas; and Staff Sgt. Scott C. Mitchell, 2nd Special Operations Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Florida.

Guldjord, superintendent for KC-46 enlisted aircrew development, “exhibited technical expertise as AFRC’s representative for the critical $52 billion KC-46 acquisition and stand-up,” according to his award citation. As a deployed boom operator section chief, Guldjord managed Central Command’s Fuel Audit Program, resulting in flawless tracking of millions of dollars in fuel transferred between allied aircraft.

Grove, the supervisor Career Enlisted Aviator Center of Excellence instructor for the 733rd Training Squadron, “expertly instructed 891 hours, graduated 160 students and awarded 1,700 Community College of the Air Force hours sustaining seven major commands, 53 bases and three weapon systems, all while maintaining a cadre of eight instructors,” the award citation states. Additionally, Grove managed the transition to automated student testing for eight Air Force Specialty Code-awarding courses, saving 350 work hours and $7,000 in annual expenses.

Mitchell, an MQ-9 Remotely Piloted Aircraft sensor operator, conducted more than 121 combat sorties, denying enemy operations that resulted in multiple enemies killed in action, according to the award citation. As a crew resource management facilitator, Mitchell processed 121 flight evaluation records, ensuring crew members attained mission ready status to support 100 percent of tasked combat air patrols.
