WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Airmen from the 442nd Fighter Wing met former NFL star and 1982 Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker at the Ozark Inn here May 21.
"You have no idea how much I respect what it is you all do," Walker said. "You all are the reason why America is as great as it is."
Walker explained how he had dreams of at one point in time of being a West Point graduate and Marine officer.
The College Football Hall of Famer also shared some of his personal experiences and struggles of dealing with Dissociative Identity Disorders, which he has written a book about titled "Breaking Free, My Life with Dissociative Identity Disorder."
"There is no shame in asking for help," he said. "If there is a problem, covering it up will only make things worse."
Walker opened up the floor for the members of Team Whiteman to ask him questions. Questions ranged from his football career and the Olympics to his stint on reality TV and if Donald Trump's hair is real.
"It is," Walker said. "It's just really long and he puts a lot of mousse in it."
The breakfast was concluded with time for autographs and photos with the former All-American.
"Herschel was great, he was an incredibly humble person," said Staff Sgt. Timothy Sullivan, 442nd Maintenance Squadron egress systems craftsman. "After hearing what he had to say about what he went through with DID, I'm really interested in reading his book."
Walker was given a tour of the base after the autographs and photo session.
