Air Force Reserve selects top aerial port people, unit

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. --  Reservists from New Jersey to Hawaii picked up awards in the 2004 Air Force Reserve Command Aerial Port competition.

In a March 31 memo, AFRC Vice Commander Maj. Gen. David E. Tanzi announced the following individual winners:

Field grade officer – Lt. Col. Dale A. Forman , 45th Aerial Port Squadron, Travis AFB, Calif.

Company grade officer – Capt. Mark H. Mellinger, 96th APS, Little Rock AFB, Ark.

Senior NCO – Senior Master Sgt. Leland M. W. How, 48th APS, Hickam AFB, Hawaii

NCO – Tech. Sgt. Tracy L. Frank, 35th APS, McGuire AFB, N.J.

Airman – Senior Airman Wellena M. Seamon, 96 th APS, Little Rock AFB, Ark.

The 67th APS, Hill AFB, Utah, was named the best aerial port unit in the command.

AFRC has 44 aerial port units in the continental United States, Hawaii and the U.S. territory of Guam. They train to augment Air Mobility Command in passenger and cargo processing; loading procedures; processing and loading parts and equipment; mobility gear; and a variety of supplies on military and commercial aircraft.

Reservists in these units are qualified to perform aerial port operations worldwide. They provide about 52 percent of the Department Of Defense's aerial port wartime resources.
