Larry the Cable Guy visits Airmen at Charleston

CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. --  Nationally renowned stand-up comedian and star of Blue Collar TV, Larry the Cable Guy, visited here Oct. 30 to support the men and women serving in uniform. 

Nearly 400 Airmen in Air Force Reserve Command’s 315th Airlift Wing and Air Mobility Command’s 437th AW, along with family members, met the comedian as he signed autographs, took pictures and shared a few laughs. 

Asked if he enjoyed meeting with the Airmen, he simply replied with a smile: “Git-R-Done.” 

The blue-collar comedian was in the city to perform for more than 4,000 fans at the North Charleston Coliseum and wanted to take a few hours out of his day to visit with Air Force people here. 

“I believe he appreciates what the troops are doing for America”, said Lt. Col. John Placko, operations officer for the Reserve’s 300th Airlift Squadron. 

Colonel Placko and his 11-year-old son David waited in line for the comedian to autograph the boy’s hat. 

While on base, Larry also toured a C-17 Globemaster III and got to “fly” Boeing’s C-17 simulator. 

“His favorite part of flying the simulator was the realism of flying an approach into Iraq,” said Maj. Mark Pool, a 300th AS pilot and the comedian’s guide on the simulator. 

As the line for autographs and pictures wrapped around the auditorium and his departure deadline loomed, Larry refused to leave until he had met every fan and signed every autograph. Nearly an hour late by the time he left, Larry had only a few minutes to spare before show time at the coliseum. 

“The fact that he took the time to sign an autograph for everyone in the room speaks volumes about this guy and his appreciation for members in uniform,” said Col. Mike Kim, 315th AW vice commander. “I can’t help but think he did a lot for morale.” (AFRC News Service)
