Pittsburgh dining facility named best in command Published April 7, 2006 ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Members of the Long Dining Facility staff at Pittsburgh International Airport Air Reserve Station, Pa., stepped up to reclaim the title of best dining facility in Air Force Reserve Command. They outscored last year’s winner, the 919th Services Flight, Duke Field, Fla., to capture the command’s 2006 John L. Hennessy Award. The Pittsburgh staff also took the award in 2004, 1999, 1996, 1995 and 1993. “The selection process was difficult due to the superb achievement of all nominees; however, the level of excellence by the 911th Services Flight persevered,” wrote Maj. Gen. Allan R. Poulin, AFRC vice commander, in the award announcement March 17. “I am extremely proud of their efforts and continued dedication to the Air Force mission.” Other units competing against the 911th SVF for the award were the 440th SVF, Gen. Mitchell IAP ARS, Wis.; 910th SVF, Youngstown ARS, Ohio; 914th SVF, Niagara Falls IAP ARS, N.Y.; 919th SVF, Duke Field; and 934th SVF, Minneapolis-St. Paul IAP ARS, Minn. Although important, palate-pleasing food is not the only ingredient for success. Headquarters AFRC Directorate of Services evaluated command food service in five major categories – kitchen operations; serving and dining operations; training, personnel and readiness; sanitation and repair maintenance; and management. Each year the Reserve, the active force and the Air National Guard select the best dining facilities in their respective categories. Reservists from the Pittsburgh dining facility staff, along with the winning representatives from the active force and the Guard, will receive their awards during an awards banquet at the National Restaurant Association convention in Chicago in May.
