Scott aeromedical evacuation reservists train on C-17 Published Sept. 13, 2006 By Tech. Sgt. Gerald Sonnenberg 932nd Airlift Wing SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Nineteen members of the 932nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron here got a chance to test their skills on a visiting C-17 Globemaster from March Air Reserve Base, Calif. The aircraft was already on the tarmac when the sun rose on the Saturday of the unit training assembly. Ninety minutes later, the AES Citizen Airmen were loading and securing their medical equipment on board the aircraft, which can take off weighing more than 580,000 pounds. After the aircrew and passengers were airborne, the aircraft headed north toward the U.S.-Canadian border. A short flight later, everyone was prepped for a bumpy ride as they entered the practice area. "It was just awesome," said Maj. Shaun Carter, an AES member who flew on the C-17 for the first time. "This was great universal qualification training on a big, brightly-lit aircraft." By 2:30 p.m., after the AES members had been tossed and turned in a variety of low-level maneuvers, the aircraft touched down on Scott AFB's runway. (AFRC News Service)
