Niagara Falls firefighters respond to airliner crash

The 914th Airlift Wing fire department from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station here responded to a call for assistance from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport fire department at 12:57 a.m. Feb. 13.

The 914th AW fire department responded with a P-19 fire truck and a foam trailer, two firefighters and a fire department safety officer.

Through a support agreement with the community, the fire fighters went to the scene of a civilian airliner crash in Clarence, N.Y. The plane went down about five miles short of the runway on its arrival approach, hitting a home and killing one occupant.

Four crew members and 44 passengers were on board Continental Flight 3407. There were no survivors.

The members of the 914th fire department remained on standby at the scene until they were released. They returned to the air reserve station at 4 a.m. (Air Force Reserve Command News Service from a 914th AW news report)
