Reserve Command stands up second F-22 group Published April 19, 2010 49th Fighter Wing Public Affairs HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Air Force Reserve Command stood up its second F-22 fighter unit during an activation ceremony here April 9. Col. Donald Lindberg took command of the 44th Fighter Group with the ceremonial passing of the unit guidon from Maj. Gen. Frank Padilla, 10th Air Force commander. The 44th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and 301st Fighter Squadron were also activated in the ceremony. The 44th FG is a classic associate unit, flying the F-22 Raptor alongside the regular Air Force 49th Fighter Wing. The 49th FW retains principal responsibility for the weapon system and shares the aircraft with the 44th FG.
