HILL AIR FORCE BASE, UTAH -- Three Air Force Reservists from the wing's 67th Aerial Port Squadron recently joined with NASA to help transport a satellite and its supporting equipment from São José, Brazil to Vandenberg AFB, Calif. The 419th Airmen and other deployed reservists loaded and unloaded more than 100,000 pounds of cargo onto two C-17 aircraft. NASA also entrusted the reservists with pallet-building, load planning and required inspections during the 10-day endeavor.
The satellite, known as the Scientific Applications Satellite-D, will be launched in June as part of a cooperative mission between NASA and five other countries to better understand ocean circulation, the water cycle, and climate.
