An airman and three senior NCOs will represent Air Force Reserve Command in the Air Force's 2012 Outstanding Airmen of the Year and First Sergeant of the Year competitions later this year.

AFRC's nominees to the Air Force competitions are:

First sergeant - Senior Master Sgt. Daniel J. Anthony, 302nd Maintenance Squadron, Peterson AFB, Colo.

Senior NCO - Senior Master Sgt. Peter A. DeSanctis, 934th MXS, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Air Reserve Station, Minn.

NCO - Master Sgt. Shawn J. Jones, 514th Air Mobility Wing, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J.

Airman - Senior Airman Frederick C. Danneman, 419th Medical Squadron, Hill AFB, Utah.

"All nominees should be extremely proud of their many achievements and contributions associated with being nominated for these prestigious awards," said AFRC Commander Lt. Gen. James F. Jackson in a memorandum announcing the command winners April 8.

Anthony represented the 302nd Airlift Wing, Peterson AFB, Colo., at several key events, including a visit by the assistant secretary of the Air Force for manpower and reserve affairs.

He was requested by name to augment the U.S. Air Force Academy Protocol Office for 90 days, and volunteered 120 hours helping with Waldo Canyon fire evacuations and other community support projects.

DeSanctis deployed for 132 days as the 746th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Unit flight chief in Southwest Asia where he supported 950 combat sorties with a 99.5 percent mission effectiveness rating. During his deployment, he earned a Community College of the Air Force associate degree in avionics systems technology.

In the 934th MXS, DeSanctis is responsible for 58 technicians in nine Air Force specialty codes. Under his leadership, the unit had a 100 percent safety record with a 95 percent quality-assurance pass rate. In his off-duty time, he volunteered his time and raised money for veterans groups.

Jones was named the Department of Defense Print Journalist of the Year for 2011, a first for Air Force Reserve Command public affairs personnel.

He represented his wing when distinguished visitors came following Hurricane Sandy and was personally "coined" by Vice President Joe Biden. Jones wrote for Air Force Print News and was selected as the lead writer for the Air Force chief of staff transition. He devoted more than 40 hours per season as a youth soccer head coach and basketball assistant coach.

Danneman conducted suicide awareness training for more than 250 new members of the 419th Fighter Wing at Hill AFB. Working with the active force, he developed a resiliency training module for Reserve explosive ordnance disposal Airmen and provided critical mental health screenings so 29 Airmen could return to duty.

In addition to providing personal safety training at a church, Danneman prepared and served more than 300 meals to people in need. He was recently accepted into the Mental Health and Counseling graduate program at the University of Phoenix in Murray, Utah.
