Massive tornado hits near Tinker AFB Published May 21, 2013 By 507th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- A powerful tornado touched down about three miles south of Tinker AFB hitting the town of Moore, Okla., May 20. The 507th Air Refueling Wing Crisis Action Team was activated and initiated accountability of all personnel assigned to the wing. The governor called up state National Guard troops to assist in disaster response efforts. "We are deeply devastated by this tornado, and our heart and prayers go out to all families that have been affected by this terrible event," said Col. Russell Muncy, 507th ARW commander. "At this time, we are attempting to determine the specific impact to our personnel, their families and the local community." The wing operates and maintains 12 KC-135R Stratotanker aircraft providing worldwide aerial refueling to U.S. military and NATO aircraft.
