Dover fuels shop hauls in command award Published June 14, 2013 By Tech. Sgt. Andria J. Allmond 512th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The 512th Airlift Wing's flying squadrons may represent the Team Dover mission in the air, but they rely on ground forces to get them there. One group of Airmen, the fuels management flight in the 512th Logistics Readiness Squadron, did their job so well that they won Air Force Reserve Command's American Petroleum Institute Golden Derrick Award. The award was presented June 8, recognizing them as the best fuels management operation in AFRC. This bestowment came as no surprise to the troops who helped supply fuel for 94 percent of cargo missions supporting Operation Enduring Freedom during the last fiscal year. "With Dover being a main hub, our integration with active duty helps to relieve some of the stress of the job," said Capt. Brian Saul, 512th LRS commander. "We almost always have at least a few of our reservists on orders at Dover or deployed on a contingency order at any given time." While also receiving, testing and storing petroleum power, the reservists supported their 436th AW counterparts in supplying 5.1 million gallons to Dover AFB aircraft. "Both sides of the house work very well together, which makes keeping up with training and accomplishing the mission that much easier," said Tech. Sgt. James Steinbrueck of the 512th LRS fuels shop. The team was vigorous in not only trade-related support, but also quality-of-life contributions. Last year, they helped raise approximately $32,000 for charity organizations. They also organized and led a ruck march to support the USO, and coordinated volunteers for a race supporting juvenile mentorship programs. USAF.
