As 433rd Airlift Wing members prepare for the upcoming deployment cycle early next year, they will need to get familiarized with the new streamlined U.S. Air Force training regimen, the Expeditionary Readiness Program, which was implemented on Oct. 1.

For the Alamo Wing, the 433rd Logistics Readiness Squadron plays a key role in the pre-deployment training process.

"The 433rd LRS ensures that members are combat ready and that they fulfill all of the training requirements to deploy" said Master Sgt. Derrick Brown, 433rd Plans and Integration, NCO in charge.

Under the ERP, training will be divided into two separate training blocks, Basic Airman Readiness and Basic Deployment Readiness.

The Basic Airman Readiness training will replace the Tier 2A training requirement for all 433rd members.  Originally, Tier 2A training needed to be completed every two years, with the change, the new BAR training will need to be completed every three years. BAR training needs to be completed six months prior to deployment.  The new training should save Airmen time and reduce redundancies across the two training platforms.

The Basic Deployment Readiness training replaces the Tier2B requirement and should be completed by Airmen who have been identified for deployment. Unlike the BAR training the BDR should only be completed by deploying members and no more than once in a three year period. The BDR training needs to be completed by the member at least one month prior to deployment.  The BDR training meets the minimum qualifications for standard deployments and is used as a prerequisite for Airmen attending Advanced Deployment Readiness courses.

The 433rd LRS will lead briefings and a question and answer session for deploying members on Nov. 7 in Bldg. 828 from 9-11 a.m. The meeting will cover topics like, Combat Arms Training and Maintenance (CATM), Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN), clothing, customer support, medical, log plans, military pay, and family readiness. The purpose of this meeting will be to answer any questions and concerns the deploying member might have prior to deployment.

A key element to the deploying process is the communication between the Unit Deployment Managers and their Airmen.

"Unit Deployment Managers, please talk to your Airmen because we have been getting phone calls from members asking if they are deploying," said Brown. "If they don't know they are deploying yet, UDM's should at least talk to unit members and let them know if they are deploying."

The 433rd LRS is also encouraging all deploying members to create an Air and Space Expeditionary Forces Online account to keep up with their training regiments as well as important dates and deadlines for their deployment. Accounts can be created through the Air Force Portal by searching for AEF Online.
