Reservists train Guard how to load vehciles on a C-5

Alamo Wing continues mission during shut down

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND -- Civilian employees in the 433rd Airlift Wing returned to work Oct. 7 to resume the wing's dual missions of global airlift and the C-5 Galaxy aircrew formal training.

Federal civilian workers and Air Reserve Technicians reported for duty after an emergency furlough was implemented on Oct 1. Some members of the wing were immediately recalled to sustain FTU and airlift missions. The final members of the wing were recalled by the Department of Defense on Oct. 5.

Col. Jeffrey T. Pennington, 433rd AW commander, reiterated his commitment to the wing's populace during this period of uncertainty.

"I am proud of the dedication and service provided by our over 500 civilian and Citizen Airmen," he said. "Everyone has rallied together to continue providing a combat ready force for our nation."

The emergency furlough has caused the wing to delay normal monthly training.

"Our unit's military function is still limited as we work through this emergency furlough," he said. "As a result, the date of the October Unit Training Assembly is still yet to be determined. Wing personnel are encouraged to stay in communication with their chain of command as well as monitor our wing website and Facebook pages for updated information."
