Little Rock unit to get new name

LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. -- Air Force Reserve Command's C-130 unit here is changing its name.

Maj. Gen. Mark A. Kyle, commander of AFRC's 22nd Air Force, will activate the 913th Airlift Group and present the unit's new guidon in a ceremony July 13.

The 913th AG replaces 22nd Air Force, Detachment 1. The detachment was activated in March 2011.

The Reserve unit has more than 500 personnel assigned. It's authorized to increase in size to about 800 Airmen and civilian employees in fiscal 2015.

"The Air Force Reserve at Little Rock AFB has been preparing for this transition for a while, and we're proud to have a more visible place in Team Little Rock," said Col. Archie Frye, the unit's commander.

About 28 percent of the unit works fulltime as air reserve technicians and civil servants. The rest of the unit is made up of traditional reservists.

Elements of the 913th AG will include a headquarters unit, 327th Airlift Squadron, 913th Operations Support Squadron, 913th Maintenance Squadron, 96th Aerial Port Squadron, 913th Force Support Squadron and 913th Aerospace Medical Squadron.

The detachment worked with Air Education and Training Command's 314th Airlift Wing and the Air National Guard's 189th AW for nearly three years as part of the formal training unit mission at Little Rock AFB.

The Reserve unit began transitioning to a combat mission in October 2013 through an Air Force Total Force Integration action with Air Mobility Command's 19th AW and its 50th Airlift Squadron and aircraft maintenance unit.
