An Air Force reservist stationed here placed first runner-up at the Miss Hawaii Pageant June 10 during a ceremony at the Coral Ballroom of the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Waikiki, Hawaii.

Senior Airman Angela Everhart, a utility systems specialist with Air Force Reserve Command’s 624th Civil Engineer Squadron here, competed against 11 other contestants to represent Hawaii in the Miss America pageant, held annually in Atlantic City, N. J.

The Miss Hawaii Scholarship Program, which conducts the Miss Hawaii Pageant each year, is an official preliminary to the Miss America pageant.

A resident of Wahiawa, Hawaii, Airman Everhart entered the Miss Hawaii Scholarship Pageant as the reigning Miss West Oahu, a title she has held since December 2004.

She ran on her platform of eradicating racism through education and by demonstrating her talent in the Ahuroa and Otea, or slow and fast, styles of Tahitian dance.

A junior at the University of Hawaii, West Oahu, Airman Everhart is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in psychology on her way toward obtaining a doctorate in educational psychology.
