About 200 reservists of the 439th Airlift Wing began deploying in January to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Airmen will serve tours of four to six months. They represent about 10 percent of the Air Force Reserve Command unit's reserve population and are the largest group of wing members to serve overseas in the Global War on Terrorism.

Some 60 medical specialists of the 439th Aeromedical Staging Squadron left Jan. 8 for Iraq.

About 50 Airmen from the 58th Aerial Port Squadron, 15 from the 42nd Aerial Port Squadron and 60 in charge of force protection from the 439th Security Forces Squadron will follow in coming weeks.

The security forces specialists recently went to Texas for several weeks of specialized training in preparation for overseas deployment. (Air Force Reserve Command News Service)
