Maxwell reservists return from Iraq

  • Published
About 60 reservists and two C-130 aircraft from the 908th Airlift Wing returned home in mid-March.

They spent a month in Southwest Asia. The 908th was the first Air Force Reserve Command C-130 unit to deploy under a new rotation system. These units deploy volunteers for one-month tours to provide airlift support for U.S. Central Command.

About 40 of them returned aboard a KC-10 on March 16. Two days later the unit aircraft and about 20 aircrew and aircraft maintenance people arrived back at Maxwell AFB.

While deployed, the 908th's aircraft and crews flew about 320 hours and 135 sorties in theater, transporting people and cargo as needed to assist in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The 908th was activated in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom from November 2003 to November 2005. During that period, the unit flew more than 10,000 hours, including 7,000 in and around Afghanistan and Iraq. (Air Force Reserve Command News Service from a 908th AW news release)
