Guard, Reserve units combine command post Published Oct. 2, 2008 By Master Sgt. Paul Zadach 934th Airlift Wing Public Affairs MINNEAPOLIS -- In a small ceremony Oct. 1, Air Force Reserve Command's 934th Airlift Wing and the Air National Guard's 133rd AW established a first-of-its-kind joint command post in a single facility. The combined command post serves both wings. It replaces formerly separate facilities at Minneapolis-St. Paul Air Reserve Station. Its mission is to maintain command and control of aircraft and Airmen and to coordinate emergency actions when needed. "A big advantage to the joint command post is the synergy that is created by combining resources," said Col. Tim Tarchick, 934th AW commander. "It is efficient and it makes sense to have one base and one command post." The process of joining the two facilities began about 18 months ago when an Air Force-level directive ordered individual command posts to combine. Shortly after the directive was received, Air Force Reserve controllers coordinated efforts with their counterparts in the Air National Guard wing and AFRC headquarters. That led to further coordination between the commanders of the two wings to work on goals and policies between the two wings. "The simple fact that we are working together in many areas makes a pretty big statement," said Col. Greg Haase, 133rd AW commander. "In today's ever changing landscape of the Air Force, Guard and Reserve we will constantly create innovative, creative ways to move forward and create efficiencies in the way we work."
