Ceremony recognizes to 2 former NAF commanders

Two former numbered air force commanders in Air Force Reserve Command received 2008 Presidential Rank Awards from the Air Force chief of staff April 17.

Maj. Gen. Martin M. Mazick and retired Maj. Gen. Robert E. Duignan were among 22 people to accept senior executive service awards from Gen. Norton Schwartz in a ceremony at the Women's Memorial at Arlington Cemetery.

"These honors formally recognize what your leaders, contemporaries and subordinates surely have known for some time now, that each of you has dedicated your careers to serving something bigger than yourselves," General Schwartz told the awardees. "Your talented leadership has contributed immeasurably to the public good."

General Mazick is the AFRC vice commander here. He's had the job since April 14. Before that, he commanded 22nd Air Force at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga.

General Duignan was commander of 4th Air Force at March ARB, Calif., until he retired from the Air Force in January with 36 years of service.

During the award period, both men served in a dual status as air reserve technicians - federal civilian employees and Air Force reservists.

They received meritorious-level rank awards. Only 5 percent of the SES and equivalents, who make up about .03 percent of the total civilian federal workforce, can receive this award.

Their awards included a framed certificate signed by the president, a lapel pin and a lump-sum bonus of 20 percent of their basic civilian pay. (Air Force Reserve Command News Service)
