After a week of scrutinizing dozens of checklists, the Air Force Inspection Agency presented its findings Aug. 20 from a unit compliance inspection of Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command. The inspectors said Headquarters AFRC was "compliant in an outstanding way."

The inspection covered seven core compliance areas - commander's emphasis, contracting, communication, information and knowledge operations, safety, emergency management, personnel, and legal. Those areas gave the inspectors 982 compliance checklist items to review.

"This is a clear indication that we have the right framework in place to forge ahead with attaining full operational capability as an Air Force major command," said Lt. Gen. Charles E. Stenner Jr., AFRC commander. "Our people and our programs are top-shelf quality, and this was evident during this inspection."

During a staff assistance visit in January, the inspector general team noted 93 items in-compliance with comments and 151 not in-compliance items. The visit identified areas the headquarters staff needed to work on. Eight months of hard-hitting teamwork proved invaluable. The IG team noted just 17 items in-compliance with comments and 13 not in-compliance items. The result was a 98.7 percent in-compliance finding.

"The staff has always set standards for excellence, but having it all thoroughly examined by an outside agency really reinforces the quality of work here," said Maj. Gen. Martin M. Mazick, AFRC vice commander. "We're clearly set for the road ahead to a full operational capability major command status."

During the UCI, the AFIA team recognized three superior teams and three superior performers for their exemplary programs and work in the organization.

The superior teams were:

Emergency management team - Staff Sgt. Danish Santiago, Senior Master Sgt. Christopher Mozingo, Cary Payne and Thomas Morris.

Emission and computer security team - Pete Zuromski and Senior Master Sgt. Jude Halchak.

Government travel card team - Elsie Robinson and Lynn Warner.

The recipients of the superior performance awards were Sergeant Santiago and Master Sgt. Louanna Bledsoe of the 951st Reserve Support Squadron, and Austin Tosi of the security forces operations branch in the AFRC directorate of installations and mission support.

"I was especially impressed with the teamwork the staff demonstrated," said William Redmond, AFRC director of staff. "Everyone worked together as a bigger team helping each other improve programs and prepare for the inspection. Everyone was very open and forthcoming and eager to show off their programs, which really impressed the inspection team."

In addition to the inspection's superior performers, the headquarters staff recognized four UCI preparation teams with 47 executors and 36 individual command super stars.

"This was an incredible demonstration of teamwork and dedication," General Stenner said. "I'm humbled to have such an impressive cadre of professionals here at AFRC headquarters.

"We have significant challenges ahead," he said. "These inspection findings show we have the right stuff to turn these challenges into opportunities."
