Aerial porters compete in Port Dawg Challenge

  • Published
Reservists representing 22 aerial port squadrons from around Air Force Reserve Command will converge at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga., Oct. 25-29 to compete in the command's Port Dawg Challenge.

The competition features 11 events, running from Oct. 26 to Oct. 28. The challenge kicks off with opening ceremonies Oct. 25 and concludes with an awards ceremony Oct. 29.

The competition events are designed to test reservists' proficiency in performing aerial port tasks, such as passenger terminal operations and loading and offloading cargo from a C-130 aircraft with running engines. Other events include maneuvering driving courses with a 25-ton Halverson loader and a 10-ton forklift; processing cargo; planning loads; building up pallets; restraining cargo; processing cargo; and participating in a fit-to-fight test.

The following Air Force Reserve Command aerial port squadrons are participating in the Port Dawg Challenge:

25th APS, Maxwell AFB, Ala.
26th APS, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas.
27th APS, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Air Reserve Station, Minn.
30th APS, Niagara Falls IAP ARS, N.Y.

Dobbins ARB hosted 22nd Air Force's Roundup aerial port competition in March 2009, which featured 18 squadrons assigned to the numbered air force. Port Dawg Challenge expands on that concept to include aerial port teams from 4th Air Force and 10th Air Force units.
