Two Airmen from the 931st Air Refueling Group Safety Office were recognized by Air Force Reserve Command for outstanding safety accomplishments, Dec. 9.

Lt. Col. Glenn T. Clark, Chief of Safety, 931st ARG, was named AFRC Safety Officer of the Year.

Tech. Sgt. Regina Rector, the former ground safety manager for the 931st, was named Ground Safety Non-commissioned Officer of the Year.

Col. William H. Mason, Commander, 931st ARG, said the accomplishments are evidence that total force integration initiatives can be successful when managed properly.

"These honors are a testament to the professionalism of our people. The safety office is one of the most integrated shops we have with the host-unit 22nd Air Refueling Wing," said Mason. "This shows that working with our active duty counterparts works. Congratulations to our safety professionals on a job well done and honors well deserved."

In addition to his duties as 931st ARG Chief of Safety, Clark served two stints as the interim Chief of Safety for the 22nd ARW. The 931st ARG Safety Office and 22nd ARW Safety Offices integrated earlier in the year.

Clark said the award reflects the success of total force integration initiatives.

"It's not just a win for us, but for our host unit [the 22nd ARW]," said Clark. "It's a testament to how well we work with them. It says to anyone who steps foot on this base, 'we're thinking about you.'"

Lt. Col. Tom Shields, 22nd ARW Chief of Safety, said the two offices complement one another.

"The safety offices are one of the best examples of total force integration initiatives on the base," he said.  "Lt. Col. Clark was able to step in and seamlessly act as both the 931st Air Refueling Group and 22nd Air Refueling Wing chief of safety.  When you can't tell the difference between the reserve or active duty components, that's successful total force integration and that's what Lt. Col. Clark has been able to display."

Rector was named AFRC Ground Safety NCO of the Year for her accomplishments while serving as the ground safety manager for the 931st ARG.

One highlight of her nomination package was zero lost work days due to mishaps and only $240 in mishap costs. Rector transferred to the 507th ARW at Tinker AFB in July.

From her office at Tinker, Rector said she was honored to receive the award and deflected credit to the men and women at McConnell.

"It has to be leadership, because I can't be everywhere. It's all the supervisors, all the individuals and all the commanders." Rector said. "They have to be engaged in their safety program in order to reduce mishaps. As long as they maintain that level of engagement, I think the 931st will keep that record. "
