Morris takes command of 39th Flying Training Squadron
7/13/2012 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 39th Flying Training Squadron changed commands during a ceremony on June 29 when Lt. Col. Lee Morris assumed command from Lt. Col. Roger Suro. The 39 FTS, which falls under the 340th Flying Training Group at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, supports Air Education and Training Command's Pilot Instructor Training mission.
Morris said he felt honored to lead the Cobras, a unit with a diverse mission encompassing four different airframes.
"To the men and women of the Cobras. You are undoubtedly the finest group of aviators, officers and enlisted people anywhere on the planet. There is no other place I'd rather be and no other group of people I'd rather serve with," said Morris.
Morris and Suro emphasized the close relationship between the 39 FTS and the active duty wing and it's leadership. Additionally, they both thanked the members of Team Randolph and special guests, the 39th Fighter Association and members of the Commemorative Air Forces who flew in a B-25 for the event from San Marcos, Texas.
The change of command is the next step in the already distinguished career for Suro. He entered the Air Force after graduating from the Untied States Naval Academy and flew the A-10, T-38C, and the AT-38B. The colonel is continuing his career with a Harvard University Fellowship. His duties at Randolph AFB included flight commander, chief of plans, director of operations, and squadron commander.
Suro especially thanked the Cobra's and all of the distinguished guests for his time as the commander of the 39 FTS.
"To all the bro's doing the J-O-B...thanks for making my time as your commander an easy and enjoyable experience," said Colonel Suro.
