11/6/2012 - Col. Glenn Young, Air Forces Northern Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer, explains in a television news interview Nov. 4, 2012, how Pacific Gas & Electric power-line repair trucks and U.S. Coast Guard water pumps will be airlifted from Travis Air Force Base, Calif., to aid in the Hurricane Sandy recovery. The equipment was flown to New York's John F. Kennedy Airport on board Air Mobility Command C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster III transports. The effort is part of the U.S. Northern Command-led endeavor to support Federal Emergency Management Agency's storm response work. Air Force EPLOs, such as Colonel Young, are senior Air Force Reserve officers who are subject matter experts in state and regional disaster response plans, advising civil authorities how Air Force capabilities can support disaster response.
