Alaska Reserve unit takes home "Get One Now" award

11/1/2011 - JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- Air Force Reserve command's 477th Fighter Group, the only Reserve unit in Alaska, was honored with the "Get One Now" award during the annual Air Force Reserve Recruiting Service Award presentation Oct. 27 in Lansdowne, Va.
The premise behind the Get One Now program is to incentivize Reservists by recommending qualified people to serve in the Air Force Reserve. The member gains points for every person they refer who joins the Reserves. With the right number of points a Reservist can receive awards like a portable DVD player for one new accession to a Mac Book for seven or more new accessions.
During the award period the 477th Fighter Group brought in the highest percentage of accessions through the Get One Now program in Air Force Reserve Command.
This was with the help of Maj. Gina Gorski, 477th Aerospace Medicine Flight, who referred more people in one month earlier this year than anyone since the inception of the referral program more than eight years ago.
"After seeing the recruiting slides at our staff meeting, and realizing how many vacancies we still had to fill in the 477th Fighter Group, I thought I should go out and contribute to the recruiting mission," said Gorski."I started by going to my son's high school sporting events in uniform, which served as a moving billboard for everyone."
For reaching this epic milestone Gorski, who also owns and operates a Marble Slab Creamery in Anchorage, took home a brand new snowboard.
Col. Bryan Radliff, 477th Fighter Group commander, was honored to receive this award.
"The number of new recruits is important but what continues to impress me is the quality of people our Airmen bring into the unit," said Radliff. "Their professionalism and positive attitudes are attributes others want to emulate and it draws people who desire to serve this Nation as Citizen Airmen. I couldn't be more proud."
