Captain Turner looks to repeat last year's victory as she and her Air Force teammate, Maj. Scott Poteet, assigned to the U.S. Air Force Academy, claimed the 2010 Ford Ironman World Championship military division title with a combined time of 20:27:36.
With the stage set, Captain Turner will once again be competing with 1,800 of the best triathletes in the world as they complete 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking, and a 26.2-mile marathon run through tough ocean waves and challenging lava-covered terrain.
Captain Turner said the most challenging part of being a U.S. Air Force Reserve pilot and a professional athlete is balancing the two passions.
"Some of my Air Force missions can be as long as 24 hours," said Captain Turner. "I average 14 training session each week, and each training session may be as little as 45 minutes or up to eight hours long. It's a lifestyle that requires me to be flexible, committed and passionate."
