Update: ART Special Examining Unit
Open Continuous Announcement and Standing Registers
Upcoming Changes in ART Special Examining Unit "Standing Registers"- Effective January 2014
ART positions are announced through the SEU on USAJOBS as "case exams" and "standing registers". A case exam is a one-time announcement for a specific job at a specific location and is normally open for a five day period. Open continuous announcements (standing registers) are the exception to case exams and are established when there is a need to maintain a standing inventory of qualified applicants for various vacancies/locations.
The SEU maintains a 90 day register that is announced for five days at the beginning of each quarter and is used to fill vacancies received during the applicable 90 day period. This is the Administrative Support Assistant (O/A), GS-303-05/06. The GS-7 will be added in January 2014 due to the large volume of requests (GS-303-07) received for this register. This register will open Jan. 2 - 9, 2014 on USAJOBS.gov.
Any applications received for this particular announcement will be rated only for RPAs received during this particular quarter. The SEU will then re-announce this position the first week of every quarter and the same rules will apply. Only applications received during the open announcement period will be rated for RPAs received for the applicable quarter.
Applications will not roll over, meaning those who apply between Jan. 2-9, 2014 must reapply when announced the next quarter. Once the announcement closes, no additional documentation will be accepted.
The SEU currently has three standing registers which will be re-announced on Jan. 2, 2014:
Aircraft Engine/Propeller Mechanic, WG-8602-10;
Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic, WG-2610-12;
Aircraft Mechanic (Fixed Wing), WG-8852-10.
Any applicant that has previously applied for these registers must reapply on or after Jan. 2, 2014 in order to be considered for any vacancies received by the SEU beginning Feb. 1, 2014.
The SEU will add several new standing registers that will open on Jan. 2, 2014 which include:
Airplane Flight Instructor, GS-2181-13
Training Tech, GS-1702-5/7
Human Resources Assistant, GS-0203-07 (Mil)
Applications for standing registers have a monthly cutoff. Applications received by the 25th of the month will be processed for RPAs received the following month.
Personnel Force Innovation matches Guard and Reserve personnel with Department of Defense agencies for Man-Day tours from one to three years. Some positions are non-Air Force Specialty Code specific. Search and apply for positions at the PFI website.
An Air Reserve Technician (ART) carries dual status, working as a full-time Department of Defense civil service employee and as Reservist performing the same job in an Air Force Reserve Command unit.
ARTs are full-time civilian employees who are required to serve as members of the Air Force Reserve one weekend a month and at least 14 days a year of annual training. On these weekend Unit Training Assemblies (UTAs) and during their annual two-week tour of duty, ARTs train with fellow reservists.
During the normal five-day workweek, ARTs perform as civilians, maintaining and operating reserve facilities in direct support of their unit.
