Creech reservist killed in auto accident

Tech Sgt. Michael Johannsen, a remotely piloted vehicle senor operator with the 91st Attack Squadron, Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, was killed in an auto accident near Indian Springs April 19. According to Nevada Highway Patrol reports, Johannsen's vehicle was struck head-on by a driver approaching in the wrong lane. The driver of the other vehicle was also killed.

"We are hurting after this tragic loss of life," said Col. Ross R. Anderson, 926th Wing commander.  "Our thoughts and prayers are with TSgt Johannsen's family, friends and squadron teammates right now.”

Johannsen was 29 years old. He joined the squadron in January 2013 and arrived at Creech Air Force Base in the same month.

“Mike was an outstanding Airman and role-model who epitomized our core values of Integrity, Service and Excellence," said Lt Col. Adam Blood, 91st ATKS commander.  "Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family as we share in their grief during this difficult time.”

The accident is under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol, and Air Force Office of Special Investigation.
