The 302nd Security Forces Squadron was named Air Force Reserve Command's Outstanding Security Forces Unit (tenant) for 2014.

The command's annual awards program recognized the squadron charged with protecting the people, property and resources of the U.S. Air Force for their efforts in 2014. A few of the team's award-winning highlights for the year included world-wide deployments, supporting entry control operations for PAFB, as a tenant unit, and volunteering more than 400 hours in the local community.

"You don't win what we won without the whole team stepping up," said Tech. Sgt. Kevin Adkins, 302nd SFS, unit deployment manager. "I think the award was well deserved. We have a lot of key players here all the way from our commander down to the Airman who just got their first stripe and everybody plays such a big role."

Adkins was one of 16 unit members who deployed to Kyrgyzstan to work hand in hand in with Active Duty to ensure the successful closure of Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan in 2014.

"Our Airmen are some of the best Airmen," said Tech. Sgt. Aaron Thomas, 302nd SFS, noncommissioned officer in charge of operations. Thomas attributes this recognition as a result of the SFS Airman's ability to adapt to the situations and their ability to perform.

During the award period the 302nd SFS' impact on the mission was noted both at home and abroad. Their efforts included support of Peterson's 21 Space Wing's SFS as well as deployments to Southwest Asia supporting transport, medevac and operational support movements.

"I am proud of the culture in this unit and the teamwork, I think that is what sets this unit apart," said Capt. Brian Young, 302nd SFS commander.

This is the second time the 302nd SFS has won this award, the first time was in 1996.
