Wright-Patt reservists continue hurricane relief support

  • Published
A C-141 cargo aircraft from the 445th Airlift Wing left here early Sept. 30 for Randolph AFB, Texas, as part of the Air Force’s ongoing hurricane relief efforts.

The aircrew leaves Randolph AFB the next day to return to home station pararescue people and equipment from Moody AFB, Ga., and equipment from Patrick AFB, Fla. The crew then flies to Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga., to pick up 13 pallets of supplies and deliver them to Baton Rouge Metro Ryan Field, La.

This is not the first time the Air Force Reserve Command unit has supported hurricane relief efforts.

A week earlier a wing aircrew evacuated patients out of Hurricane Rita’s path from the Southeast Texas Regional Airport in Beaumont, Texas, to Dobbins ARB. From that base, waiting medical people took the patients to area hospitals in Atlanta.

Earlier in the month, wing crews airlifted 350 patients out of Louis Armstrong International Airport after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans. Wing crews also transported 54,000 pounds of supplies and equipment to the hurricane-ravaged area.

On Sept. 21, the wing sent 13 reservists from its 445th Security Forces Squadron to Lackland AFB, Texas, to provide base security for 45-60 days in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. They are among 166 reservists from 16 Reserve security forces units deployed to Lackland and New Orleans to guard equipment and facilities.
