Georgia senator visits Air Force Reserve headquarters

Sen. Johnny Isakson made a special visit to Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command May 14.

He joined Lt. Gen. Charles E. Stenner Jr., commander of Air Force Reserve Command, and other senior leaders in the headquarters for a working lunch to discuss the growing importance of the Air Force Reserve to the overall Air Force mission.

"My visit reaffirmed for me the critical role Robins Air Force Base plays in the Air Force Reserve and the Air Force as well as to the security of our country," the senator said.

General Stenner's briefing highlighted two main points. The first focused on the general's vision of "Total Force 21," a recommendation to right size the command to meet growing requirements and shrinking budgets.

"The visit provided an opportunity for us to highlight some of the outstanding contributions our Citizen Airmen are making around the globe," General Stenner said.

The second main point stressed Total Force Integration initiatives - associations with Regular Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard units that leverage strengths and save money.

"Reserve Airmen are integrated into all Air Force missions and are serving in every combatant command area of responsibility," he said.

Sen. Isakson complimented Robins AFB on its impact in Middle Georgia and the nation. "I continue to be astonished by the number of missions carried out by Robins and the great effort of the men and women who serve here," he said.

"The Air Force Reserve is extremely proud of the close ties we have with Warner Robins and surrounding communities," said General Stenner. "Sen. Isakson's visit provided the opportunity to highlight not only Air Force Reserve Command, but 'Team Robins'".

Located 100 miles south of Atlanta, Robins AFB is home to one of three air logistics centers as well as Headquarters AFRC. The base's annual economic impact to Georgia is estimated at $4.5 billion.
