Texas Reserve squadron wins Grover Loening Trophy

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. --  The 457th Fighter Squadron at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas is the 2016 recipient of the Grover Loening Trophy as the best flying squadron in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

According to the award citation, the 457th FS earned recognition for operational excellence throughout its Air Expeditionary Force deployment preparation and execution phases. More than 70 members were deployed and redeployed to Afghanistan in support of Operations Freedom's Sentinel and Resolute Support, providing 24-hour coverage that culminated in more than 1,500 combat air sorties flown.

The 457th FS is part of the 301st Fighter Wing at NASJRB Fort Worth. The wing currently flies the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
