Reservist retires after 39 years of service
ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. --
Chief Master Sgt. Timothy Pittman, Air Force Reserve Command superintendent of aeromedical operations and training, retired July 24, 2015, at the Museum of Aviation.
Pittman joined the Air Force on Aug. 4, 1976. He comes from a long line of military family members, who include Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, his great grandfather on his dad’s side.
"Coming from a military family it’s just in your blood to want to serve…it was my calling,” he said.
Pittman feels honored to be a part of his family’s legacy and urges Airmen to embrace the same calling as they serve their nation.
“Learn from my mistakes and don’t forget history,” he told his friends during his retirement ceremony. “The future is what you make it, but history plays a big part in that.”
Pittman was a key exercise planner for Headquarters AFRC and was instrumental in coordinating annual training exercises with the Army Reserve.
"Air Force Reserve Command has participated in [Golden Medic and Global Medic] from the beginning," he said. "We started with a handful of people and continue to expand participation every year," he said.
When asked what he plans to do next, he said, "I plan to take a few months off to volunteer then I'll play it by ear."
