WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- Then-President Ronald Reagan signs the bill commemorating Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday as a national holiday on Nov. 2, 1983 in the White House rose garden. The first observation was Jan. 20, 1986. This year's observance will mark the 77th birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the twentieth anniversary of the national holiday in his honor. WASHINGTON -- Retired Lt. Col. Howard Baugh is one the Tuskegee Airmen that visited the Pentagon at the invitation of the Secretary of Defense. The pioneering Airmen made their visit Nov. 10.
