Mission Accomplished

Astronaut (and Air Force Reservist) Michael Fossum works in Space Shuttle Discovery's cargo bay during a mission this summer. The astronaut, who is an individual mobilization augmentee colonel assigned to the F-16 Program Office at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, performed three spacewalks during Discovery's 13-day, 5-million-mile journey. Colonel Fossum and his crewmates were able to accomplish all of the main objectives of their mission: flying an improved external tank, testing on-orbit shuttle repair procedures and preparing the International Space Station for future assembly. Exercise Shared Accord in Benin

Col. Barbara Petersen, Det. 15 program manager, instructs Beninese nurses on the importance of handwashing. Col. Petersen was part of the Exercise Shared Accord team that traveled to Benin. Shared Accord is an annual Joint Chief of Staff exercise led by U.S. Marine Forces-Europe. Shared Accord is a U.S./Benin bi-lateral field training exercise aimed at conducting small-unit infantry training as well as providing a humanitarian assistance effort for the local population.

Pacific Angel puts Medical IMA to the test

KAMPONG CHHNANG PROVINCE, Cambodia -- A young Cambodian boy is being checked out for complaints of breathing trouble by Maj.Nisha Money, a preventive health physician from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Andrews AFB, Md. A 13th Air Force led total force team of active duty, Reserve and National Guard members are working with doctors from the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, Cambodian dental students and other non-governmental organizations during Pacific Angel recently to provide cost free medical care to the people of Cambodia at three different operating locations. Operation Pacific Angel is a joint/combined multi-national humanitarian assistance operation conducted in the Pacific area of responsibility in support USCDRPACOM capacity-building efforts. Participating services include the Active, Reserve and National Guard components of the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF), and Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF).
