KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. (AFPN) -- The final C-130J Hercules from the 403rd Wing here touched down after being forward deployed to Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga. The aircraft returned home after flying missions out of Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga., since Hurricane Katrina bashed apart its home base. The 403rd Wing mission, which includes the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron's "Hurricane Hunters" and the 815th Airlift Squadron's "Flying Jennies," fully reinstated its mission at Keesler after Hurricane Katrina damaged their home unit. A young aviation enthusiast, Antoni Mazur of Poland, was invited to visit the U.S. Air Force's newsest airlifter the C-130J-30 June 16. Aircraft commander, Maj. Brian Freeman, 815th Airlift Squadron, described some of the new features in the J-model's "glass" cockpit. Computers and Heads Up Displays on the most recent in the Hercules line help improve situational awarness for pilots.

NEW ORLEANS -- A U.S. Air Force Reserve C-130 Hercules from the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, sprays Dibrom, a pesticide approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, over the city Sept. 13. The C-130 crew plans to spray the New Orleans area first, then other affected Gulf Coast areas as required. Crews will target are primarily mosquitoes and filth flies, which are capable of transmitting diseases such as Malaria, West Nile virus, and various types of Encephalitis.
