Mode 7 Emergency Exercise
Air Force Reserve pararescuemen from the 920th Rescue Wing treat astronauts injured in a NASA orbiter crash during a Mode 7 Exercise at Cape Canaveral February 13th. The exercise provided training in the event the Space Shuttle would veer off the runway during a landing into a remote area of Cape Canaveral. NASA firefighters and Air Force Reserve pararescuemen were airlifted by rescue wing Pave Hawk helicopter aircrews to the remote site to exercise their egress and medical skills.

The exercise is one of eight possible space shuttle emergency senarios that rescue crews train for.

NASA Emergency Exercise
The 920th Rescue Wing out of Patrick Air Foce Base, Fla. was a big player during a Mode 7 Exercise at Cape Canaveral February 13. The Air Force Reserve rescue crews airlifted Air Force Reserve pararescuemen from the wing's 308th Rescue Squadron as well as NASA emergency firefighters to a remote location on the Cape where the exercise took place. It allowed rescue workers to training in space shuttle egress in the event of a space shuttle Mode 7 emergency.
