Airlift honored
RHEIN-MAIN AIR BASE, Germany -- Gen. Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong, U.S. Air Forces in Europe commander, speaks at the ceremonial closing of this longtime airlift base. The ceremony was Oct. 10 and closed the Air Force's "Gateway to Europe" after 60 years of service. The Air Force will turn the base over to the Frankfurt Airport Authority in December. Spray 'em out
NEW ORLEANS -- A U.S. Air Force Reserve C-130 Hercules from the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, sprays Dibrom, a pesticide approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, over the city Sept. 13. The C-130 crew plans to spray the New Orleans area first, then other affected Gulf Coast areas as required. Crews will target are primarily mosquitoes and filth flies, which are capable of transmitting diseases such as Malaria, West Nile virus, and various types of Encephalitis. Hurricane Hunters rebound, gear up for next storm
DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. - An Air Force Reserve Command WC-130 Hercules sits on the runway here. The Hurricane Hunters from the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron evacuated their home at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., before Hurricane Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast.
