A crowd of 350 greeted the first C-5A Galaxy assigned to the Air Force Reserve Command's 445th Airlift Wing, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, during an arrival ceremony Oct. 3. The giant cargo hauler is replacing the retiring C-141 Starlifter fleet, which is being retired.

C-5 arrival at Wright-Patt
The first of 11 C-5A Galaxy's for the Air Force Reserve Command's 445th Airlift Wing arrived at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, on Oct 3. The C-5s are replacing the C-141 at the unit. Leading the crowd going to view the newly arrived Galaxy are the newest members of the Air Force Reserve Command who took the oath of enlistment in the cargo hauler duing a mass enlistment ceremony.

Refuge from the storm
050902-F-5515J-002 Volunteers from Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga., shuttle a patient who arrived there on a C-141 assigned to Air Force Reserve Commands 445th Airlift Wing, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. About 100 patients were airlifted to Dobbins for transportation to hospitals in Atlanta, one of 17 cities in the country taking 2,500 Hurricane Katrina victims. At Dobbins, the patients went to the 80th Aerial Port Squadron building where Veterans Administration medical people assessed their conditions before they were transported by ambulance to one of 38 Atlanta hospitals. Pakistan relief efforts
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii -- Loadmasters Tech. Sgt. Mike Lopez, Senior Airman Marcial Cadena and Staff Sgt. Joe Nicholes, check a technical order before loading a CH-47 Chinook heavy lift helicopter onto their C-5 Galaxy here. The Airmen from the Air Force Reserve 433rd Airlift Wing, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, helped ferry 60 troops, four helicopters and support equipment to Pakistan to support earthquake relief operations Oct. 16. Paris Air Show 2005 Kid
A young aviation enthusiast, Antoni Mazur of Poland, was invited to visit the U.S. Air Force's newsest airlifter the C-130J-30 June 16. Aircraft commander, Maj. Brian Freeman, 815th Airlift Squadron, described some of the new features in the J-model's "glass" cockpit. Computers and Heads Up Displays on the most recent in the Hercules line help improve situational awarness for pilots.
