2000- Present Timeline
5 February 2000 - The Air Force Reserve's 711th Special Operations Squadron, Duke Field, Florida, became the first active associate unit in the Air Force. The Air Force Reserve unit owned the MC-130 aircraft and the active duty unit, the 8th Special Operations Squadron, supplied the aircrews.
July - September 2000 - Air Force Reserve firefighting aircraft and aircrews squelched wildfires in California, Idaho, and Montana, utilizing C-130s equipped with modular airborne fire fighting systems.
11 September 2001 - Air Force Reservists from a variety of career fields responded to the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington D.C. Operation Noble Eagle was launched to protect the United States from further attack. Reserve F-16s, KC-135s, and AWACS supported air combat air patrols and provided early warning for the homeland defense mission.
7 October 2001 - Air Force Reserve fighters and tankers rolled into the fight to support Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
19 October 2001 - Air Force Reserve MC - 130E Combat Talon aircraft flown by aircrews from the 919th Operations Group, Duke Field, Florida became the first fixed wing aircraft to penetrate Afghan airspace during Operation Enduring Freedom.
20 December 2001 - More than 11,000 Air Force Reservists and individual mobilization augmentees (IMAs) were recalled to active duty as part of America's anti-terrorism campaign in support of Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom.
February 2003 - Air Force Reserve Command provided search, security, and air refueling support during Department of Defense operations related to the loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia. Reserve port mortuary teams also assisted at the Port Mortuary, Dover AFB, Delaware.
March 2003 - Air Force Reserve Command personnel, on a mobilized and volunteer basis, began supporting coalition operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Reservists established air bridges at Westover Air Reserve Base, Massachusetts, and March Air Reserve Base, California. Overseas, Air Force Reservists from unit-equipped and associate units provided airlift, paratroop airdrop, air-refueling support, aeromedical evacuation, space, rescue, and special operations. In addition, Air Force Reserve A-10s, F-16s, and B-52s carried out numerous combat sorties.
October 2004 - Air Force Reservists provided lodging, food service, communications, transportation, maintenance, public affairs, a medical clinic, and an operations center supporting relief actions in Sudan's Darfur region.
December 2004 - An Air Force Reservist was selected to command the 11th Reconnaissance Squadron, Creech AFB, Nevada, one of three active duty MQ -1 Predator squadrons in the Air Force. Future Predator units throughout the country were scheduled to utilize more Air Force Reservists to operate the unmanned aerial vehicles as part of Air Force Future Total Force initiatives.
December 2004 - An Air Force Reserve aircrew flew the new C-130J to support Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom in Southwest Asia. This marked the Air Force's first combat deployment of the C-130J.
December 2004 - January 2005 - Air Force Reserve, active duty and guard personnel flew Operation Unified Assistance missions in the wake of the tsunami that struck South East Asia.
9 August 2005 -The Air Force Reserve received its first unit-equipped C-17, The Spirit of California, assigned to the 452nd Air Mobility Wing at March ARB, California.
August - November 2005 - More than 1,465 Air Force Reservists were deployed to provide assistance in support of Hurricanes Katrina, Ophelia, Rita and Wilma.
25 September 2005 - An Air Force Reserve aircrew flew the last C-141 Starlifter combat mission for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
13 October 2005 - Air Force Reservists helped deliver aid to Pakistan after an earthquake rocked the region.
13 November 2005 - Air Force Reserve F-16 crews participated in Operation Steel Curtain, a joint operation to restore control over Iraqi towns bordering Syria.
June 2006 - Air Force Reserve A-10 crews from the 303rd Fighter Squadron, Whiteman AFB, Missouri, participated in Operation Mountain Thrust, the largest anti-insurgent operation in Afghanistan since October 2001.
July 2006 - After fighting broke out in Lebanon, Air Force Reserve airlift crews helped evacuate Americans transitioning out of Cyprus to Ramstein Air Base, and then on to stateside bases.
20 December 2006 - A C-17 flown by McChord crews from the 62nd and 446th Airlift Wings, McChord AFB, Washington, made its debut airdrop to the South Pole, Antarctica, in support of Operation Deep Freeze.
29 January 2007 - The Air Force Reserve's 6th Space Operations Squadron assumed satellite control authority of the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program when the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration officials moved to Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado.
26 February 2007 - The Air Force Reserve's 932nd Airlift Wing at Scott AFB, Illinois, received its first C-40 aircraft under the active associate unit structure. The Wing converted from C-9s to C-40s to augment its mission of transporting distinguished visitors.
8 August 2007 - Air Force Reserve C-17 crews from the 317th Airlift Squadron, Charleston AFB, South Carolina, transported vehicles, and personnel to aid in the rescue of six miners trapped in a mine in Huntington, Utah.
1 September 2007 - Air Force Reserve crews from the 920th Rescue Wing, Patrick AFB, Florida assisted the Coast Guard in saving 31 migrants stranded in the water between the islands of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
1 October 2007 - The first Air Force Reserve associate F-22 unit stood up at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. The newly designated 477th Fighter Group associated with the active 3rd Wing to form two F-22 units.
14 April 2008 - The Air Force Reserve commemorates its 60th anniversary since being formally established in 1948.
