5 February 1991 - Headquarters Air Force Reserve changed from a separate operating agency to a filed operating agency.

1 April 1991 - The entire weather reconnaissance mission was transferred to the 815th Weather Squadron, based at Keesler AFB, Mississippi.

April 1991- 31 December 1996 -Air Force Reserve units contributed significantly to Operation Provide Comfort and Provide Comfort II, the effort to deliver relief supplies to Kurdish refugees in southern Turkey and northern Iraq.

June 1991- Air Force Reserve airlift crews participated in Operation Fiery Vigil to help evacuate those fleeing from the eruption of Mount Pinatubo near Clark Air Base in the Philippines.

16 October 1991 - The 581st Air Force Band, Robins AFB, Georgia, was redesignated "Command Band of the Air Force Reserve."

1 April 1992 - The 317th Airlift Squadron (Associate) was activated at Charleston AFB, South Carolina; the Air Force Reserve's first C-17 associate squadron.

6 - 12 May 1992 - The Command Band of the Air Force Reserve performed on Russian television and marched in the Peace Victory Parade in Red Square during the first visit of a United Sates military band to the Russian capital.

1 June 1992 - Gaining MAJCOMs for the Air Force Reserve changed when the Air Force inactivated Military Airlift Command, Tactical Air Command and Strategic Air Command and activated Air Combat Command and Air Mobility Command. The Air Force Logistics Command and the Air Force Systems Command were inactivated and the Air Force Material Command was activated in its place.

July 1992 - January 1996 - Air Force Reserve C-130 aircraft and aircrews joined active-duty and Air National Guard aircraft and crews at Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany, to airlift desperately needed supplies and food into war-torn Sarajevo and Zagreb during Operation Provide Promise.

23 August 1992 - Hurricane Andrew severely damaged Homestead AFB, Florida. Three days later, Air Force Reserve aircraft and crews began airlifting desperately needed equipment and supplies into southern Florida.

27 August 1992 - Air Force Reserve units began supporting Operation Southern Watch, a no-fly zone over Iraqi territory.

1 January 1993 - The Air Force Reserve entered the space program with the activation of the 7th Space Operations Squadron at Falcon AFB, Colorado.

Associate aircrews from the 315th Airlift Wing, Charleston AFB, South Carolina, and the 446th Airlift Wing, McChord AFB, Washington, evacuated 217 American and foreign citizens from Bujumbura, Burundi, after fighting broke out in neighboring Rwanda. April 1993 - December 1995 - Air Force Reserve A-10 and F-16 pilots and aircraft participated with Air National Guard and coalition forces in Operation Deny Flight. This was in support of the enforcement of a military no-fly zone over Bosnia-Herzegovina in accordance with a UN Security Council resolution.

1 October 1993 - The Air Force Reserve activated its first B-52 equipped unit, the 93rd Bombardment Squadron of the 917th Wing, Barksdale AFB, Louisiana.

9-10 April 1994 - Associate aircrews from the 315th Airlift Wing, Charleston AFB, South Carolina, and the 446th Airlift Wing, McChord AFB, Washington, evacuated 217 American and foreign citizens from Bujumbura, Burundi, after fighting broke out in neighboring Rwanda.

July-September 1994 - Air Force Reserve airlift and air refueling aircrews participated in Operation Support Hope, the humanitarian relief mission to aid Rwandan refugees.

September 1994 - March 1995 - Air Force Reserve airlift and air refueling aircraft flew missions in support of Operation Uphold Democracy, the peacekeeping mission in Haiti. During the airlift phase of the operation named Phoenix Shark virtually all Air Force Reserve strategic and tactical airlift units were involved to include C-130 and C-141 airlift and AC-130A gunships.

Air Force Reserve fighter air crews deployed to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, in support of Operation Northern Watch, the successor to Operation Provide Comfort, the humanitarian assistance to the Kurds and enforcement of the northern no-fly zone. December 1995 - December 1996 - Air Force Reserve airlift, aerial refueling, and aeromedical units plus individual mobilization augmentees began supporting Operation Joint Endeavor, the NATO-sponsored peacekeeping mission to Bosnia Herzegovina, formerly known as Yugoslavia.

15 March 1996 - The Air Force Reserve's first associate E-3 airborne warning aircraft was assigned to the 970th Airborne Air Control Squadron, at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma.

January 1997 -- Air Force Reserve fighter air crews deployed to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, in support of Operation Northern Watch, the successor to Operation Provide Comfort, the humanitarian assistance to the Kurds and enforcement of the northern no-fly zone.

17 February 1997 - The Air Force Reserve was redesignated the Air Force Reserve Command and became the Air Force's ninth major command. This was a result of the Air Force relying more on its reserve components during the 1990's. The FY 1997 National Defense Authorization Act was passed and directed each of the military services to establish "reserve commands." Title XII, Reserve Forces Revitalization, Section 10174 instructed the Secretary of the Air Force to establish an "Air Force Reserve Command."

17 February 1999 - The first C-130J was assigned to the Air Force Reserve's 815th Airlift Squadron at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. An acceptance ceremony was held on
31 March 1999.

March - June 1999 - Air Force Reservists supported Operation Allied Force, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization air campaign to halt ethnic fighting in Kosovo.
