COLONEL EDSEL A. "ARCHIE" FRYE, JR.
Col. Edsel A. "Archie" Frye, Jr. is the Commander of the 22nd Air Force, Detachment 1 Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark. The detachment reports to 22nd Air Force, Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga. The newly formed Air Force Reserve C-130 flying training unit is working alongside the 314th Airlift Wing at Little Rock and will associate with the 189th Airlift Wing Arkansas Air National Guard. The detachment will be comprised of over 700 members by the conclusion of fiscal year 2014. In conjunction with the 314th AW and the 189th AW, the detachment supports Air Education Training Command's legacy C-130 flight training mission.
Colonel Frye started his military career in 1976, enlisting in the Air Force, serving as a crew chief, phase inspector, and flight engineer. He entered the Air Force Reserve Air Reserve Technician program in 1982 at Barksdale AFB, La. Colonel Frye was then selected for and graduated from Officer Training School before entering Undergraduate Pilot Training in 1986. During his career, he has flown A-10, B-52H, KC-135R and C-141C aircraft at various Air Force Reserve units across the country. He has served in many positions within the Air Force Reserve Command and has deployed repeatedly in support of such Operations as DENY FLIGHT, IRAQI FREEDOM, and ENDURING FREEDOM, to name a few. He is a command pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours.
